A Piano is Reborn!

The Piano, THEN:

This beautiful and historic piano is nearly 100 years old, and is on permanent loan to the "Live! in Lexington" concert series from the GFWC Woman's Club of Lexington. It is a Sohmer 9-foot concert grand. The piano originally was owned by Central College for Ladies. When that Lexington school closed in 1926, the GFWC Woman's Club purchased the piano to assure that it remained in Lexington. It was housed for all those years in (what is now) the Lexington Historical Museum building. When that building was the Lexington Library, many of us played it during piano recitals. It was also used to showcase visiting musicians. "Live! in Lexington" paid for the piano to be completely restored, and it will be used for appropriate concerts. The piano lives on! The initial cost for restoration and maintenance was over $5,000. Donations to "Live! in Lexington" to assist with the cost would be very welcome. The piano is housed at the Lexington United Methodist Church between concerts, where it is cared for and used.
