Old Photos from Jim Lorantos

As well as the photos from the Class of '59 Reunion, Jim Lorantos sent a number of old photos that should kindle a few memories. There are a eighteen, all told, and we've left them in a larger format so that you could enjoy all the details. So, be patient with the downloading!

In the current newsletter an inquiry is made about the origin of the name of the Peckerwood Club and Mitteville. This copy of a Peckerwood Club menu should help answer some of the questions.

As long as we are out on Old 24, here are a couple of shots of the Lexington Bridge as we remember it, and in the final moment of its existence.

And where did the Lexington Bridge lead to? Well, among other places, Henrietta! The first picture was taken in 1943, the second in 1987.

We had some pictures of Central School a few issues ago. Here's another, showing the school without tree leaves blocking the view, but with some chilly snow on the roof.

And what's the point of a school? The pupils! Here are some kids from the Class of '59 when they were attending Central School, and for politically correct balance, one from Arnold School.

While they were in the third or fourth grade, it appears that the kids learned to dance the Minuette, complete with costumes. Probably, they performed at a PTA meeting so their mothers could be proud of them!

But after grade school, we attended LHS. This is how we fondly remember it.

Here's a great shot of the LHS band. We believe that we see Shirley Jiovenale '59 Link leading the band as Drum Major and Mr. Lewis, the music director, marching alongside in his white uniform. And note the classic cars along the street! It looks like a float in the background -- was this homecoming, perhaps?

Here's a great shot! Clockwise, from top left, Tom Walker '59, Jim Lorantos '59, Mary Pat Gueguen '58 Miller, and "Puddin'" Griffiths, '59. Although the photo is labeled "1958 Band Executive Board", I think Jim is pointing to the music and saying, "And this is where you go Boom-Boom on the kettledrums, Mary Pat!"

Now, the LHS Band didn't play dance music but we did have dances. Here we see Sue Driver '59 Kille and Jim Lorantos '59 and Marlene Stigall '59 and Sonny Oetting '58 cutting the rug on the gym floor.

And what do you do after high school? Why, you grow up and get married!

Thanks, Jim! Those were great!
