Douglass School Fire!

A terrible fire destroyed the Douglass School building this month. What had once been a most attractive school building is now but a shell, literally. It was a sad passing.

One of our Faithful Subscribers, Mary K. Wilcoxon Gooseman '58, heard the alarm and took the first picture after arriving at the scene shortly after one o'clock. The fire continued at the time Mary K. took the second picture. The Lexington Fire Department reported great difficulty in dealing with the blaze due to the number of false ceilings. The Fire Department had to return two days later to deal with previously hidden hot spots.

Our photographic stringer, Wally "Snaps" Hulver '55, went by a few days later and recorded these sad shots. As we understand it, there's nothing much left but the walls.
